No Morning Coffee Crash! Energize Your Morning with Watermelon, Lemon and a Hint of Mint! (Infographic)

The summer’s almost over, guys….

The summers in the Midwest are pretty brutal when it comes to humidity. But I just can NOT deal with the bitter cold so I’ll take the warmth when I can get it! But it’s getting closer to the fall season, and I still had some energizing summer recipes to try out.

Today was ESPECIALLY hot and after a long day of errands and a dog walk around the park, cooling off and recharging was much needed.

This watermelon mint juice recipe I concocted seemed PERFECT to try out today. It’s simple and I found a basic recipe and tweaked it to my liking.

You’ll need:

Watermelon– about 2 cups, chopped

Agave nectar– 1 tsp

Lemon juice– 1/2-1 whole lemon, depending on preference

Mint Leaves– a handful, whatever amount you want!

Chia seeds– approx. 2 tbsp

Water– 1 cup

Ice cubes– I love this juice best when chilled!

I loaded everything into my Nutri-Bullet blender cup and blended until smooth. Roughly about a minute or so. The result is a smooth, flavorful, quenchy drink that is not only delicious but full of what our bodies need to transform it into energy. And I know we all need a bit more of it to get through our busy days!

Here’s the breakdown:

Lemon juice helps to keep you hydrated, elevates energy levels and aids in proper digestion. Mixed with some warm water, I swear it’s better than coffee in the morning! It keeps me alert without the stomach discomfort and subsequent crash coffee crash coffee always gives me.

The antioxidants also fight against impurities from our environment like pollution, chemicals (free radicals), leaving our skin smooth and bright. I even tone my face with the leftover lemon wedges to get even more use out of them!

Mint has an amazing ability to sooth the stomach, and help with nausea. Anti-pruritic properties (reduces itching) can help with acne issues from the outside in. I have a constantly overflowing garden so this one of my many ways to use all that mint!

Watermelon is mostly water in its composition, so it’s easy to stay hydrated and maintain good digestion. Just like lemon juice, it is also full of necessary antioxidants like Vitamin A and C which are essential to keeping hair and skin healthy by producing collagen, the most abundant protein in the body.

Side bar! Collagen keeps skin supple, prevents wrinkles, and keeps hair strong so having your body make more of it is the key! Watermelon has also been known to help maintain a healthy blood pressure because of its high amounts of lycopene. This is especially important since I’ve discovered that almost HALF of all black, adult men and women are struggling with high blood pressure.

And even after a workout, drinking a glass has even been found to reduce inflammation and soreness, because of Vitamin C’s anti-inflammatory capabilities.

Chia seeds! These tiny, tasteless, seeds are sooooo powerful! Loaded with fiber, protein, and Omega-3 fatty acids (good fats!), they are the perfect add to round out this energizing, nutrient-packed juice! They’re also heavy on the calories, but light on carbs (the carbs are mostly fiber), making them great for results whether you’re strength training or on a weight loss journey. 160 calories, 5g of protein, 10g of healthy fat, and 8g of fiber in 2 tablespoons! So easy to throw into my drink, smoothie, oatmeal, or anything easily mixed.

Believe it or not, these little guys even have plenty of antioxidants, just like both the watermelon and lemon juice, to keep our melanin glow on point ♥

Try it! See if it helps you get up and go a bit quicker the next morning.

If you’re liking this idea, I’d love if you shared the recipe below on Pinterest, then others can be on their way to more energy!

See you guys next time!
